maker marked "M" over "SS" within a sun-shape on the intact clip
He directed the fire of his guns with such effect and caused such heavy casualties that the enemy on two occasions were forced to retire

Instituted on December 27 1757 by Prince Philipp Ernst I. A rare decoration, in silver an eight point star with clusters of five faceted rays, the central applique in gold, a superimposed Maltese cross with lightly pebbled arms, with flames between each arm, the central medallion presenting the inscription IN SENIO (In Old Age) on a blue enamelled field, surrounded by a textured gold ring, the reverse of the star
